Halton Region Public Health is encouraging parents and guardians to ensure students in grades 9–12 are up-to-date on routine immunizations to protect against diseases like measles, polio, and chickenpox. Due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many teens may have fallen behind on these critical vaccines. To support this effort, Halton Public Health is organizing walk-in clinics and offering resources to simplify the reporting process for immunization records.
Failure to update records could result in school suspensions in early 2024 as part of Ontario’s enforcement of the Immunization of School Pupils Act. The initiative underscores the importance of routine vaccinations in maintaining community health and preventing the resurgence of preventable diseases.
